Double Your Closet Space for Under $40

Most rental closets waste half their volume: one lonely rod, a vast empty floor, and a shelf too high to reach. For under $40, you can unlock all of it with a few clever add-ons.

A second hanging rod (the kind that hooks over the existing one) instantly doubles your hanging space — tops up high, pants or skirts below. Underneath, a hanging shoe organizer or slim rolling drawers claim the dead floor zone. Up top, add a shelf divider or two so the high shelf actually holds folded items instead of avalanches.

Finish with matching hangers. It sounds fussy, but uniform slim hangers genuinely fit more clothes on the same rod. Measure your closet before you shop, and bring the receipt — most of this is returnable if it doesn’t fit.
